Board Of Control For Cricket In India President Says Ousting N. Srinivasan Not Part Of Plan

Among a slew of initiatives that Shashank Manohar spoke of, when he took charge as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, was his "intention" of not getting back at N. Srinivasan or his supporters in cricket administration circles with "vengeance," according to K. Shriniwas Rao of the TIMES OF INDIA. Those who have Manohar's ear say that the man "will stick to his word and not go after his once close friend Srinivasan's position" as chairman of the Int'l Cricket Council. A leading voice in cricket administration circles said that "Manohar may not be interested in taking over as the ICC chief simply to snub Srinivasan because he understands well that the BCCI is a far more powerful body than the ICC when it comes to running the affairs of the game." A source said, "That's why nobody among the ICC's member boards had raised a voice of dissent against Srini even when India's highest court had pulled him up for the way BCCI was being administered. BCCI is where the real power centre is and they see the ICC as just an extension of it." If Manohar does take a call on cutting short Srinivasan's tenure at the ICC, he will "do it only when the panel's reforms, due November end, are out and if there's an underlined suggestion in that regard" (TIMES OF INDIA, 11/3). The PTI reported Pakistan Cricket Board Chair Shaharyar Khan "received a strongly worded letter from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination over his recent visit to India." The visit by the PCB delegation headed by Shaharyar "ended in a major embarrassment for Pakistan cricket" when it failed to hold the planned meeting with BCCI Manohar. The ministry "sought an explanation for the visit." A statement from the ministry said, "Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Mian Riaz Pirzada has taken serious notice of the issue of chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan's planned meeting with BCCI President in India which could not take place and ended in disruption" (PTI, 11/3).
