Names In The News

MotoGP world champion MARC MARQUEZ was reportedly "involved in an incident with two Italian journalists attempting to break into his house on Friday." Spanish media reported two journalists from Italian TV show Le Iene (The Hyenas) -- STEFANO CORTI and ALESSANDRO ONNIS -- were involved in a "physical incident with Marquez after they waited for him in his house in Lleida to film him for the show" (MOTORSPORT, 10/31). ... Manor Formula 1 Team Principal JOHN BOOTH and President & Sporting Dir GRAEME LOWDON "are set to quit the team at the end of the season." The two have "run the team since its debut as Virgin Racing" in '10. Both men "refused to comment on their prospective departures, which have been confirmed by sources close to the team" (BBC, 10/30).

AUSSIE WAVED: The NFL San Francisco 49ers "have waived the former Australian rugby star JARRYD HAYNE." The team announced on Saturday that "Hayne had been let go." The New South Wales-born player will enter the waiver system "and be available for other NFL teams to sign as a free agent." He could also be "given the chance to return to Levi's Stadium as part of the practice squad" (London GUARDIAN, 10/31). Hayne's agent, WAYNE BEAVIS, said that "there is no way Jarryd Hayne's NFL setback will propel him back to the NRL." Beavis: "There's no chance of him coming back, none at all. He is 100% committed to what he is doing over there" (GUARDIAN, 11/1).
