Argentina Council Member AGUSTÍN PICHOT has been elected onto World Rugby's Exec Committee. Pichot was elected by the World Rugby Council in accordance with the Bye-Laws, replacing Ireland's PETER BOYLE, who stepped down following elections within his union (World Rugby). ... A-League side Adelaide United has become the state's second major sporting organization to "lure a cross-code administrator after hiring respected National Rugby League heavyweight GRANT MAYER as its new CEO." Mayer, 46, arrived with a long resume and is "now part of a small group" who have worked in the Australian football and soccer. Mayer was "previously CEO of Sydney rugby league side Wests Tigers and held roles at Manly and the Canterbury Bulldogs" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 10/28). ... Former National Rugby League side Manly player and retired police officer CHARLIE HAGGETT has been appointed the Sea Eagles' new football manager and "believes the club is not far from finding the form that saw it reach four grand finals in seven years." The Sea Eagles are taking a new direction with the appointment of new coach TRENT BARRETT to replace GEOFF TOOVEY, "something Haggett was eager to be involved with" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/28). ... Spanish media reported Serie A side AS Roma will hire current Barcelona Dir of Marketing LAURENT COLETTE. Colette would become the new director of marketing at Roma, which is eager to become "more int'l." He is "no longer required at Camp Nou," as recently former Juve Commercial Dir FRANCESCO CALVO joined Barcelona (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 10/27). ... Following his recent retirement from professional cycling, IVAN BASSO is "taking a step into the management side of the sport by becoming the technical coordinator at Tinkoff-Saxo." The 37-year-old, who won two Giro d’Italia titles in his career, "hung up his wheels after overcoming testicular cancer, which was diagnosed during the Tour de France" (CYCLING WEEKLY, 10/28). ... French Division 1 handball club Chartres MHB 28 dismissed head coach PASCAL MAHÉ on Monday after the club “has not won a league match in seven days.” Mahé: “It is never pleasant to hear, but it has been brewing for some time” (L’ÉQUIPE, 10/28). ... La Liga side Levante appointed JOAN FRANCESC FERRER SICILIA, “Rubi,” as coach following the sacking of LUCAS ALCARAZ. Rubi “takes over the reins” at Levante having been “without a club” since being sacked by second-tier Valladolid following its failure to reach the top flight via the playoffs last season (REUTERS, 10/28).
