Lord's Cricket Ground Wins Go-Ahead For $306.6M Redevelopment

Planners decided to approve the next phase of the £200M ($306.6M) redevelopment of Lord’s Cricket Ground, "including a new stand and pub for the 200-year-old venue," according to Judith Evans of the FINANCIAL TIMES. The Marylebone Cricket Club, which runs Lord’s as well as writes the laws of cricket, "wants to bring the ground’s total capacity to more than 30,000, while demolishing two existing stands." The plans also include "a new pub, retractable seating for match days, and two new buildings including one with a banqueting suite, named after the club’s founder, Thomas Lord." The project will start in '19. A new Warner Stand is already under construction under the first phase of the club’s master-plan, "designed by Populous, the architects behind London’s Olympic stadium" (FT, 10/27).
