Event Notes: Gymnastics, Golf Join European Championships Lineup

Gymnastics and golf are to join the lineup of European Championships in '18. The two new additions complete the roster alongside athletics, aquatics, cycling, rowing and triathlon, which have decided to come together for the first time for the European Sports Championships which will be staged in the host cities of Glasgow and Berlin. The dates for the inaugural championships were confirmed as Aug. 1-12, 2018 (UK Athletics). ... Scotland is to play host to the world's first golfing tournament where male and female players will compete side by side. The inaugural European Golf Team Championships will be played at The Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire in '18. Gleneagles was home to the first match between British and American professionals back in '21, "sowing the first seeds of the event that went on to become The Ryder Cup." The event will see men and women compete for their countries on the same course at the same time in top-level competition "for the first time in the history of the sport" (SCOTSMAN, 10/24). ... Pakistan may boycott next year's World Twenty20 if India fails to "play a proposed series" with it this year. Talks were disrupted after "far-right Hindu nationalists attacked Board of Control for Cricket in India offices," protesting against games with Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board warned its government "will say don't go" if India does not agree to a series this winter (BBC, 10/24).
