Spain's CSD To Contribute $3.8M To 2017 Tarragona Mediterranean Games

Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President Miguel Cardenal and Tarragona Mayor Josep Félix Ballesteros on Thursday signed an agreement in which the CSD will provide €3.4M ($3.8M) of funding for the 2017 Mediterranean Games, according to MUNDO DEPORTIVO. This economic contribution will complement the fiscal exemptions provided by the law, as the event was declared "to be of exceptional public interest" in '14. Cardenal said, "I am very happy and satisfied with the signing of this agreement. The Government always has maintained the conviction that the Games would happen and go as well as possible. ... We are convinced that these Games will be a great benefit for Tarragona and its population." Ballesteros said, "For us this is vital because it guarantees the continuity of the works and the construction of the infrastructure that will allow us to keep meeting deadlines" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 10/22).
