Spanish second division side Valladolid announced on Wednesday that it sacked Manager GAIZKA GARITANO. He took over the club in July and has led it to just 13 points in nine games. Shortly after announcing the sacking of Garitano, the club named MIGUEL ÁNGEL PORTUGAL its manager for the rest of the season (EL PAÍS, 10/21). ... The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Wednesday that TOÑA IS is the new coach of Spain's women's U17 team (AS, 10/21). ... Former U.K. Sports Minister HUGH ROBERTSON has been named as the new vice chair of the British Olympic Association following an election by National Olympic Committee members. In addition, ANNAMARIE PHELPS, HEW CHALMERS and IAN HOWARD have been elected onto the board as National Governing Body representatives. Robertson replaces outgoing Vice Chair DAVID HEMERY, who served the maximum time in the post. Hemery has now been made life VP by Chair SEBASTIAN COE (Team Great Britain). ... Dutch Eredivisie side Heerenveen "persuaded veteran coach FOPPE DE HAAN to return to the club after 11 years away and take charge for the next four Dutch league games following DWIGHT LODEWEGES' resignation." Club Technical Manager HANS VONK said that he has agreed to a short period in charge "to allow Heerenveen to look for a new coach" (REUTERS, 10/21). ... Spain’s ANGEL MARIA VILLAR "has been named president of the FIFA Russia 2018 Organizational Committee for the 2018 World Cup." Villar, President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), "is also the acting President of UEFA" as MICHEL PLATINI battles a 90-day suspension (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 10/20).
