German Government Reportedly Unwilling To Pay $7.1B For Potential Hamburg Olympics

The German government "is reportedly unwilling to contribute" the requested €6.2B ($7.1B) for a potential Olympics in Hamburg, according to Frieder Schilling of SPONSORs. The government "has an issue with the amount as well as the division of costs between state and federal governments." Hamburg estimated costs of €11.2B ($12.8B) for potential Summer Olympics in the city in '24. A total of €7.4B ($8.4B) would come from the federal and state governments. The remaining €3.8B ($4.3B) would come from Games-related income and IOC contributions. Hamburg Mayor Olaf Scholz said that his city-state is willing to contribute €1.2B ($1.4B) of the €7.4B (SPONSORs, 10/15).
