Manchester United Exec Woodward Says Club Will Keep On Spending

ManU Exec Vice-Chair Ed Woodward said that the club "will continue to strengthen their squad even after their shopping spree in the summer transfer window," according to Mike Keegan of the London DAILY MAIL. Since the arrival of Manager Louis van Gaal last summer, ManU has shelled out more than £250M ($381M) on new talent. Woodward confirmed that the spending "would go on." He said that the club "would 'continue to look to strengthen the squad and to reward young talent' citing the elevation to the first-team squad of Brazilian teenager Andreas Pereira as evidence of the latter." He added that he was "delighted" with the return of Champions League football and "painted a rosy picture of the club's financial outlook" with revenues expected to sail past the £500M ($763M) mark this year. ManU has "come under fire for not having a women's team" and a club spokesperson added that it was "currently reviewing the situation." It also emerged that ManU was in talks with the club's airline partner, the Russian company Aeroflot, "aimed at providing shuttle buses from subway stations to CSKA Moscow's Arena Khimki" for the Champions League clash on Oct. 21 (DAILY MAIL, 10/13).
