German Hockey League Looking For '17 Winter Game Host, Sends Out Application Documents

The German Hockey League (DEL) "has sent application documents for the third DEL Winter Games to its 14 clubs," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. The league is looking for a host in '17. DEL CEO Gernot Tripcke: "We don't want to solely define the Winter Game in terms of setting attendance records. The overall package has to be right. Rather less spectators but a great vibe and a special atmosphere that is suitable to generate more publicity for our sport." The first two outdoor Winter Games were played in Nuremberg ('13) and Dusseldorf ('15). The Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Dusseldorf's Esprit Arena and Frankfurt's Commerzbank Arena have been mentioned as potential hosts (SPONSORs, 10/13).
