Jürgen Klopp Says He Will Have Final Word On Transfer Policy

Jürgen Klopp said that he has “no issue working as part of a transfer committee despite claims to the contrary,” but has maintained that he will have “the first and last word” on which players Liverpool buys and sells, according to Tony Barrett of the London TIMES. Liverpool is looking to “distance themselves from the committee after it gained notoriety,” but Klopp’s status in the set-up has already been established, with the former Borussia Dortmund coach set to have “the final say on new signings,” as was the case with Brendan Rodgers, his predecessor. Klopp said, “It is a really crazy discussion. It was not a problem for 10 seconds. We talk about it of course, but for me it is enough to have the first and the last word. The middle we can discuss." Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group is "content to afford considerable influence on the club's transfer plans because it believes that the 48-year old's global reputation will allow him to attract top-class talent." There is also an expectation that Klopp "will be better placed than Rodgers to exploit the int'l market." Liverpool Chair Tom Werner admitted his relief that a three-year pursuit of Klopp has "finally come to a successfull conclusion" and backed the club's new manager to prove his "world class" credentials at Anfield. FSG "first tried to convince Klopp" to take over from Kenny Dalglish as manager in '12 (LONDON TIMES, 10/10).
