FA Board Member: FA Must Stop Managers Meddling In Medical Matters

FA board member Heather Rabbatts said that the Eva Carneiro saga should "force the FA to consider sanctioning managers who meddle in medical matters," according to Ben Rumsby of the London TELEGRAPH. Rabbatts, the FA's only female board member, raised the prospect of the FA "beefing up its regulations around the roles and responsibilities of team doctors" while speaking at the Leaders Sport Business Summit. Carneiro lost her job at Chelsea after being "criticized publicly" by Jose Mourinho for treating Eden Hazard during the club's opening-day draw against Swansea (TELEGRAPH, 10/7). In London, Owen Gibson reported Rabbatts said that "the issue was on the agenda at the FA" and it would examine whether to change its rules to specifically prohibit managers and coaches from interfering with medical professionals. Rabbatts: "We have to look within the FA at the processes and we will do so in the forthcoming weeks. The issue of safeguarding players is clearly vitally important, and there are a number of concerns shared by Premier League doctors and the association of medical practitioners. There are a number of things to look at and reflect how we can do better, and I sincerely hope we see Eva Carneiro back in football soon" (GUARDIAN, 10/7).
