Facility Notes: Bundesliga Side SV Darmstadt To Launch $37M Stadium Expansion

Bundlesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 is planning a €33M ($37M) modernization of its stadium with the renovation "targeted to be completed" by the end of '18. Currently, the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor has a potential capacity of 30,000 but, "due to safety reasons, this is restricted to about 17,000" on matchdays. The 18-month upgrade will expand the capacity to 19,000 under one roof (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/7). ... Football League One club Southend United's revised plans for a new stadium at Fossetts Farm "will be open to public viewing later this month." The club will hold a public consultation at Roots Hall on Oct. 23 and 24 for its latest proposals, "which include a 21,000-seat stadium, academy and training complex" (PA, 10/7).
