Event Notes: First World Legends Cup Will Be Hosted By Mexico January 2017

The World Sport Company in partnership with Global W. Mexico announced that the "first edition of the World Legends Cup will be hosted by Mexico in January 2017." The two-week tournament will be staged in Jan. 2017, "mainly because it's targeted as a relatively lean sports period for TV broadcasters" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/6). ... India's Twenty20 match against South Africa in Cuttack "had to be stopped twice because of crowd trouble." Fans "threw bottles onto the field" after the home side "were all out for 92" in game two of a three-match series. The match was halted for periods of 20 and 25 minutes during the South Africa reply, and English match referee Chris Broad "ordered organizers to improve security before it could resume" (BBC, 10/5). ... The 2015 First Utility Super League grand final will be watched "by a record crowd after officials announced a sell-out." More than 73,000 tickets "have been snapped up for the title decider between Wigan and Leeds at Old Trafford on Saturday." The previous best grand final attendance was 72,582 for St. Helens against Hull in '06 (London DAILY MAIL, 10/6).
