Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho "will not be sanctioned by the English FA for making discriminatory comments" toward former club doctor Eva Carneiro, according to Mike Collett of REUTERS. The FA said on Wednesday that "he would not face any disciplinary action after it cleared him of any wrongdoing in the widely publicised incident that happened on the first day of the Premier League season." The FA "studied TV footage from the 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Aug. 8 after a member of the public lodged a complaint against Mourinho who publicly expressed his anger at the doctor for treating Eden Hazard on the field at Stamford Bridge late in the game." The FA statement said that it "appointed an independent academic expert in Portuguese linguistics to analyse the footage of the incident which included the audio recording." The FA said in a statement, "After receiving the report from the expert, The FA is satisfied that the words used do not constitute discriminatory language under FA Rules" (REUTERS, 9/30). The PA's Martyn Ziegler wrote the FA's decision not to interview Carneiro as part of its investigation "has been called into question." The Football Medical Association, the body which has been liaising with Carneiro after she was dropped from first team duties and then parted company with Chelsea, "has expressed surprise that she was not spoken to by the governing body." FMA CEO Eamonn Salmon said that "expert opinion on the words used by Mourinho was divided." Salmon said, "As expert opinion would appear to be divided regarding the video evidence and content matter, the FMA is surprised that Dr. Carneiro was not interviewed as part of the investigative process." The FA "would not comment on the FMA's remarks" (PA, 10/1).
