Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix Draws 41% Market Share On RTL

German free-to-air TV channel RTL recorded more than 2.5 million viewers for its broadcast of the Japanese F1 Grand Prix, according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The race, which started at 7am on Sunday, attracted 2.51 million viewers and obtained a market share of 40.9%. In the target demographic 14-49, the race, which was won by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, drew a market share of 37.9%. German pay-TV network Sky Deutschland, which also aired the race, had a 4.4% share in the target demo as 170,000 viewers tuned in.

THE REST: Sky's Bundesliga broadcast recorded 740,000 viewers starting at 5:30pm on Sunday. The game between Dortmund and Darmstadt drew 4.7% in the target demo. The earlier game between Frankfurt and Berlin drew a 3.1% share as 400,000 tuned in. The Handball Champions League game between Copenhagen and the Rhein-Neckar Lions drew such a low rating that it was not measurable. The game between Kiel and Mogaz recorded 20,000 viewers. Pan-European sports channel Eurosport attracted 330,000 viewers for its MotoGP. The number translated into a market share of 2.7% (DWDL, 9/28).
