Spanish Sports Council, Basketball Federation To Sue Le Monde Over Gasol Allegations

Following a meeting with Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) President José Luis Sáez, Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President Miguel Cardenal announced that a lawsuit against Le Monde reporter Clément Guillot was "ready," according to Carlos Arribas of EL PAIS. This follows a post by Guillot "insinuating that Pau Gasol was doping." In the lawsuit, which is expected to be presented in court this week, "it is requested that both Le Monde and the author be sanctioned" for an "illegitimate intrusion upon the right to honor of the FEB and its athletes." The suit also asks for the removal of the article from the Le Monde website and a fine of €1M ($1.12M) (EL PAIS, 9/28).
