Tottenham Reveals 'Dramatic' Designs For $610M White Hart Lane Redevelopment

Tottenham revealed "dramatic new designs" for its new £400M ($610M) multi-purpose stadium, including four asymmetrical stands and a stadium wrapped in sculptured mesh and glass facade revealing the new home end, according to Alex Miller of the London DAILY MAIL. The plans also show a "prominent front door opening onto the High Road and three different tunnels." One for football and one each "for NFL home and away teams." There will also be "dedicated facilities for NFL -- the club have signed a 10-year partnership to host two American football games a year" (DAILY MAIL, 9/23). ARCHITECTS JOURNAL's Colin Marrs reported "Populous has submitted its proposals for the redevelopment of Tottenham Hotspur's White Hart Lane stadium." The application revises previously approved proposals and includes new features, "such as a retractable pitch, which allow the club to host American football matches." The hybrid application includes "detailed plans by Populous for a new stadium, hotel and a multi-use building comprising the club megastore, museum, cinema and cafe." Allies and Morrison has drawn up a "design code for the development of 585 new homes next to the stadium, which have been submitted for outline planning." Warmington House, a statutorily listed building built in 1828, "would be retained as part of museum space, but three other buildings which are on Haringey Council's list are planned for demolition to allow better spectator access" (ARCHITECTS JOURNAL, 9/23).
