Federal, State Governments Contribute To $9.4M Remodeling Of Ski Jumping Venue

The German government and the Bavarian state government "will financially contribute to the remodeling of the ski jumping venue in Oberstdorf," according to Kathrin Hartmann of SPONSORs. The ski jumping venue "will host the 2018 FIS Ski Flying World Championship and upgrading the venue will cost" €8.4M ($9.4M). Bavarian Sports Minister Joachim Herrmann said that the state will contribute €3.7M ($4.1M) to the construction. The federal government will add a further €3.7M. The remaining €1.1M ($1.2M) will come from the city of Oberstdorf and the county of Oberallgäu. Construction "is expected to start in March depending on weather conditions." The venue, which opened in '81, "is one of five ski flying venues in the world and the only one in Germany" (SPONSORs, 9/23).
