Event Notes: Ghent Confirmed As Venue For Davis Cup Final Between Belgium, Great Britain

Ghent has been confirmed as the venue for next month's Davis Cup final between Belgium and Great Britain. The Belgians have confirmed that they will be "using a drop-in clay court for the matches." Clay is British No. 1 Andy Murray's "least favorite surface." Belgium was given home advantage "because the last time the two teams met, in '12, Britain was the host." Ghent's Flanders Expo Centre, "which can accommodate 13,000 fans," will host the event (SKY SPORTS, 9/23). ... To celebrate 60 years of ITV, the "long-running soap" Coronation Street will broadcast a live episode Wednesday night. The 60-minute episode, which starts at 7:30pm, "coincides with ManU's Capital One Cup tie against Ipswich which kicks off at 8:00pm." With Old Trafford under a mile away from the Coronation Street studios, there are "legitimate concerns that if there is a roar from the 75,000-strong crowd inside the first 30 minutes of the match, they might be heard by Corrie fans" (INDEPENDENT, 9/23).
