Franchise Notes: Audi Denies Report Of Potential Formula 1 Entry In '18

Audi denied a report by Auto Bild that stated the German carmaker "will enter F1 in '18." Audi Motorsport spokesperson Daniel Schuster on Tuesday said, "They are all pure speculations. They have absolutely no basis." The report said that Audi "reached a pincipal decision on the issue but several signatures are still missing" (SID, 9/22). ... La Liga side Levante's Syndicate of Minority Shareholders (SAM) challenged the decision by the club's majority shareholder to vote against a sale to NBA Phoenix Suns Owner Robert Sarver in July. Sarver was offering approximately €55M ($61M). The SAM argued that the decision violated the "Ley de Fundaciones" (AS, 9/22). ... Barcelona has asked the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and FIFA to allow it to play Turkish midfielder Arda Turan "as soon as possible due to Rafinha's long-term knee injury." Turan was signed in the close season from Atlético Madrid -- as was Aleix Vidal of Sevilla -- with the understanding the pair "would not be available until January due to the transfer ban" handed to Barcelona because it illegally signed under-age players. Rules stipulate that in "emergency cases such as injury, players can be replaced outside the normal transfer windows" (REUTERS, 9/22).
