German Finance Ministry Grants Motion For Tax-Exemption Status Of Ryder Cup Bid

Germany's finance ministry "has granted the potential organizers of the 2022 Ryder Cup the necessary tax exemption," according to Hartman & Wagner of SPONSORs. The German state of Brandenburg "filed a motion to treat the Ryder Cup as a major int'l sporting event like the Olympics and therefore be exempt from taxation." At the beginning it looked like the ministry "would reject the motion," but RC Deutschland bid leader Marco Kessler said that the ministry has "now signed off on the application." As a result of the ministry's decision, the bid organizers "will not have to pay any taxes for possible investments." Italy, Austria and Spain are also interested in hosting the event in '22 (SPONSORs, 9/21).
