Former Scottish Championship side Rangers player RICHARD GOUGH has been announced as a global ambassador for the club, "returning to the Ibrox ranks after a successful playing career." The 53-year-old, who is based in America, "was a mainstay in the Govan side's 9-in-a-row winning era" and was a fan favorite for the 41 years he spent playing for the club.
He "will now act with the sole intention of promoting the club overseas and liaising with supporters" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 9/21). ... Former West Indies captain RICHIE RICHARDSON "is the latest former player to be appointed a match referee" by the Int'l Cricket Council.
The 53-year-old "has been serving as the West Indies' team manager." TOP PRICE: A strip of Scottish Premiership side Celtic "signed" by ANDY MURRAY has sold for £7,000 ($10,800) after an online charity auction.
Murray, 28, "penned his autograph on the personalised Hoops top during a visit to Celtic Park before leading Great Britain to victory in their Davis Cup tie against Australia."
The top "is emblazoned with Murray 1 on the back of it and was sold off by the Celtic FC Foundation to aid refugees in Europe."
The £7,000 "will be given to people affected by the current refugee crisis through Celtic FC Foundation’s partnership with the British Red Cross in Glasgow and its Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal" (SCOTSMAN, 9/21).
