Ronda Rousey Fight Expected To Set Record Attendance At A UFC Event

Melbourne looks certain to "set a world record crowd for yet another sporting event," according to the HERALD SUN. Tickets went on sale Sunday for UFC 193 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday Nov. 15 and "the phones ran hot." They sold as fast as the Australian Football League Grand Final or the most sought-after concert act, "and they weren't cheap." A "spot in the gods" on level three of the stadium was priced at A$100.60 ($71.77). At A$468 ($334) the "best seats in the house sold out in minutes." With seating to be set up on the ground, the stadium's capacity is "expected to be increased by about 15,000 to 70,000." That number would "smash the present world record for an Ultimate Fighting Championship event of 55,724 in Toronto four years ago." Most interest is on UFC's Ronda Rousey "who took the city by storm while promoting the event last week." Rousey "will fight former world boxing champion Holly Holm for the UFC bantamweight crown" (HEARALD SUN, 9/20).
