Supreme Court Justice CATHERINE WEDGE ruled that LAURA ROBINSON's articles about former Vancouver Olympics CEO JOHN FURLONG were "an attack on his reputation." Wedge said, "Ms. Robinson's publications concerning Mr. Furlong cannot be fairly characterized as the reporting of other persons' allegations against him. Rather, the publications constitute an attack by Ms. Robinson on Mr. Furlong's character, conduct and credibility" (CANADIAN PRESS, 9/19). ... Ligue 1 side Lyon winger MATHIEU VALBUENA "has taken his former club Marseille to court," claiming it owes him €568,000 ($641,000).  The case is connected to Valbuena's dispute with his former agent CHRISTOPHE HUTTEAU, "who launched proceedings last year to demand compensation for breach of contract." Valbuena "was ordered to pay" Hutteau €568,000 -- but he believes that "money should have been paid by Marseille" (ESPN FC, 9/17). ... ALEX FERGUSON "would have stayed on as the most successful manager in English football history, but for the death of his wife Cathy's twin sister, BRIDGET ROBERTSON, which persuaded him to retire to be by her side." In an interview to mark the publication of his new book, Leading, about the art of management, Ferguson said, "I definitely would have carried on" (London TELEGRAPH, 918).
