Ligue 1 Champion Paris St. Germain Launches $169M Bid For Cristiano Ronaldo

Ligue 1 side Paris St. Germain is "prepared to pay a global record transfer fee to sign Cristiano Ronaldo" -- and it would "spend more than a quarter of a billion pounds on the overall deal, including wages," according to Duncan Castles of the SUNDAY TIMES. The French champion offered Real Madrid an "unprecedented" £87.3M ($135M) for Ronaldo "in the last transfer window" and is ready to raise that bid to £109.2M ($169M). If Real accepted the offer, it would make the Portugal int'l the first £100M ($155M) footballer. The largesse of PSG’s proposed terms "does not end with the stratospheric fee." The Qatar-owned club "will also improve Ronaldo’s personal terms" to encourage the FIFA World Player of the Year to move. He is already the sport’s "best-paid individual" on a basic salary of more than £15M ($23M)  after tax, and his "expected remuneration in Paris would take the total value of the deal way beyond" £250M ($388M). PSG’s desire to lure Ronaldo from Spanish football "greatly complicates" ManU’s ongoing efforts to tempt him back to Old Trafford. ManU has "made multiple attempts to bring the forward back to the Premier League since Ed Woodward was promoted to the position of executive vice-chairman in 2013" (SUNDAY TIMES, 9/20).
