Mediapro-Owned Online Platform Total Channel Collapses During CL Games

Total Channel, an online platform that "emerged as an option to see Champions League group stage games on Tuesday," collapsed and caused thousands of subscribers to lose access to games televised by beIN Sports until the second half, according to Jorge Fernández Maldonado of AS. Many fans "expressed their complaints via Twitter after being unable to connect via computer, tablet or Smart TV." Total Channel owner Mediapro said in a statement, "More than 120,000 people logged on to the platform, concentrating the connections minutes before the game started. This high influx of fans caused the over-saturation of the channels. A very limited number of subscribers (approximately 7,000) were denied access to the content. The connection problems were concentrated during the first minutes, correcting themselves throughout the broadcast" (AS, 9/16).
