League Notes: WADA Report Into Athletics Doping Claims Expected For Mid-November

The World Anti-Doping Agency "is hoping to receive the much-awaited report on allegations of widespread doping in athletics before its board meeting in mid-November." The report of the independent commission, appointed by the agency and headed by former WADA President Dick Pound, into claims made by German TV regarding doping involving mostly Russian and Kenyan athletes "had been expected this month." It "has since been combined with fresh allegations in August that hundreds of suspicious drugs tests had not been followed up by the world athletics body the IAAF" (REUTERS, 9/15). ... In response to Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd.'s petition in the Madras high court challenging Justice Lodha Committee's verdict of a two-year suspension from the IPL, the BCCI "has argued that the CSKL is not a legal entity and hence cannot file a case." In its affidavit, the BCCI said that CSK challenging the order of the committee appointed by the Supreme Court "was not 'maintainable' as it was a society under the Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act and various Rules framed by this respondent are only in exercise of its powers under the Bylaws" (PTI, 9/15).
