A security guard who showed “flagrant disregard” for public safety by flying drones over London landmarks including Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and Parliament has been fined £1,800 ($2,760) in a landmark case, according to the London EVENING STANDARD. Nigel Wilson, 42, "shot several videos for his YouTube channel last autumn using three unmanned aircraft." They soared to at least 100m high "to film the aerial footage, dangerously swooping over built-up areas of Manchester and Derby, as well as London." These "included the Emirates Stadium during a Premier League north London derby match against Tottenham." District Judge Quentin PurdyPurdy told Wilson that "he had put the public at risk by flying the drones over busy urban areas." He said, "At each and every one of these places an accident could have occurred simply by a gust of wind or something of that nature taking it out of your control" (EVENING STANDARD, 9/15). The BBC reported it "was the first case in England of a person being prosecuted by the Crown Prosecution Service for using drones after a police-led operation." The court heard "police horses were startled by Wilson's device as it flew over a Champions League group stage game between Liverpool and Bulgarian visitors Ludogorets at Anfield" (BBC, 9/15).
