Chelsea Doctors Could Return To Club Following August Controversy

Chelsea has held talks with Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn, "until recently two leading figures in their medical team, about the possibility of them returning to first-team duties," according to Matt Hughes of the LONDON TIMES. Fearn has continued to work at the club's Cobham training ground since being dropped from the bench in the light of their "controversial treatment" of Eden Hazard in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City. But Carneiro "has not been seen at the club" since being criticized by Manager José Mourinho after the match against the Welsh club on Aug. 8. Chelsea wants the issue resolved before its Champions League campaign begins against Maccabi Tel Aviv at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, because Mourinho is "eager to bring clarity to the structure of his medical team." Fearn's job as first-team physiotherapist is "not thought to be under threat." But "it remains to be seen whether and when he will be welcomed back on to the bench by Mourinho." Carneiro's case is "slightly different, because in addition to angering Mourinho by following Fearn on to the pitch to treat Hazard, the manager was also infuriated by her comments on the matter on Facebook" (LONDON TIMES, 9/10).
