German Athletics Federation, Nike Sign Early Contract Extension Through '28

The German Athletics Association (DLV) and Nike "have signed an early contract extension," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. The partnership, which started in '05, "was extended until the end of '28." The current contract "was last renewed in July '10 and set to expire in '20." The initial contract between the DLV and Nike "included two Summer Olympics through London 2012." The eight-year renewal will include the Olympic Summer Games in '24 and '28, whose host cities are yet to be determined. For Frank Lebert, the managing director of German Athletics Marketing (DLM), the early extension is "evidence of trust." Prior to joining the DLV's markting arm, Lebert "worked for Nike as a sports marketing director" (SPONSORs, 9/7).
