Red Bull Reportedly Looking To Split From Renault For 2016 Season

The "acrimonious working relationship between Red Bull Racing and Renault is set to be discontinued at the end of this season," according to FOX SPORTS. Autosport.com is reporting that the partnership that yielded four drivers and four constructors championships between '10 and '13 will be "terminated at the request of the Milton Keynes-based team." Renault will reportedly accept the request, with "advanced negotiations underway for it to buy out the financially stricken Lotus outfit." Rumors have "engulfed the paddock in recent weeks that Red Bull would make a switch" to Mercedes customer engines in '16 and such a move "now appears closer to fruition than ever before." Any change to the relationship between Renault and Red Bull "would have implications for sister outfit Toro Rosso and Autosport claims the French engine supplier is not interested in providing customer engines" in '16 (FOX SPORTS, 9/7).
