WAFL Club West Perth To Meet With WA Football Commission Over Logo Scandal

West Australian Football League club West Perth said that it will "fight any sanctions imposed on it" by the WA Football Commission as the club's board and WAFC heavyweights "prepare for a showdown" on Wednesday over the "footy logo scandal which continues to plague the competition," according to Joe Spagnolo of PERTH NOW. West Perth President Brett Raponi said that the club feared the WAFC would threaten to cut its annual A$600,000 ($422,600) subsidy to the Falcons -- but believed legal advice "showed there was no justification for the sanction." Raponi said that the club believes it is "entitled to display the Channel 9 logo on players' jumpers despite the matches being telecast by rival network 7." The WAFC has backed a stance by Channel 7 "not to telecast any games featuring West Perth this year." That position "remains in place for the finals series, which West Perth is participating in." WA football faces the "ludicrous scenario whereby the grand final would not be telecast if West Perth makes the final." Raponi said that it was "in no one's interest for that to happen." Raponi: "It would be disappointing for everyone involved in football if the WA grand final is not televised" (PERTH NOW, 9/2).
