Spanish Basketball League Votes To Leave Out Ourense, Ignoring CSD's Input

The Spanish Basketball League's (ACB) General Assembly "has skipped the most predictable option" and chosen to "stand behind its decision to have an 18-team league" that will not include Ourense, according to Juanma Rubio of AS. This is despite Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) having "supported Ourense's appeal" of that decision. This means Fuenlabrada will remain in the ACB. Fuenlabrada's place "had been in jeopardy." Had the ACB accepted the CSD's ruling and promoted Ourense, the "only way" for Fuenlabrada to have remained in the ACB would have been a season with 19 teams, "which would not have been viable in practice due to opposition from Real Madrid and Barcelona, which did not want to add more dates to the domestic season." The ACB announced that it will publish its '15-16 season schedule on Tuesday (AS, 8/31).
