Executive Transactions

CTV President of Sports & Entertainment Programming PHIL KING "is departing from Bell Media as part of a reshuffling in the company's senior ranks." King held "one of the most prominent jobs in Canadian media." Prior to "taking the reigns at CTV," King served as TSN President from '04-10. The "shakeup in the senior ranks at Bell Media" is part of company President MARY ANN TUCKE continuing to put her "stamp on the division, which operates under parent company BCE." Universal Music Canada President & CEO RANDY LENNOX is "believed to be the front runner" to succeed King (GLOBE & MAIL, 8/25). ... Japan rugby coach EDDIE JONES has confirmed he will step down after the Rugby World Cup and "not take on a permanent role with the country's new Super Rugby franchise." The former Australia coach said that his contract "would not be renewed when it expires at the end of the year." Jones: "People assumed that as I had been named the director of the new Super Rugby side I would stay on. But that was just an administrative role not a coaching role. All I was doing was help get it set up" (REUTERS, 8/25). ... Former Netherlands football coach BERT VAN MARWIJK will lead Saudi Arabia for one year "after being appointed as their manager on Tuesday." The Saudi FA said on Twitter that Van Marwijk will arrive in Jeddah on Sunday and his deal will start from Sept. 1. Van Marwijk succeeded Saudi coach FAISAL AL-BADIN, who took charge of the Arab Gulf nation's team in February (REUTERS, 8/25). ... Former NBA player ANDREI KIRILENKO has been elected president of the Russian Basketball Federation. Kirilenko, who was born in Izhevsk, Russia, retired from the NBA in June after 13 seasons in the league. He played for the Utah Jazz for 10 seasons. He said, "I have finished my work as a player, but it's a great opportunity for me to continue and help basketball in Russia just in a different role as being a president, rather as a player on the floor." He was elected unopposed after the "only other candidate," Russian national team GM DMITRY DOMANI, withdrew his candidacy (SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, 8/25).
