Names In The News

Outgoing FIFA President SEPP BLATTER "has been presented with a cow called COLOMBO" during the so-called Sepp Blatter tournament in Ulrichen, Switzerland. The corruption scandal at FIFA "appeared a distant distraction as the annual charity event carrying the outgoing president's name, which took place close to his home town of Viege." In the rustic atmosphere, the leader "was presented with a Herens cow named 'Colombo' as a present from the organisers" (UKRAINE TODAY, 8/23). ... ARTHUR MORRIS, one of Australia's "finest opening batsmen and a key member of DON BRADMAN's 'Invincibles' side, has died aged 93." Left-hander Morris scored 3,533 runs in 46 tests at an average of 46.48 and "was named in Australia's team of the century in 2000." Cricket Australia Chair WALLY EDWARDS: "We have sadly lost a cherished link with our past." Morris "was the oldest of the two surviving members of the 'Invincibles.'" NEIL HARVEY, 86, another left-handed batsman, "is the only remaining player from that tour squad" (REUTERS, 8/22).
