Media Notes: Eleven Sports Network Acquires EHF Champions League Rights

Eleven Sports Network secured the exclusive live broadcasting rights for the European Handball Federation Champions League for four seasons across four markets. As of the '15-16 season through '18-19, Eleven Sports Network will be the exclusive broadcaster of both the men's and women's EHF Champions League competitions for Belgium, Poland, Malaysia and Singapore. In addition to the TV broadcasting rights, the agreement with EHF Marketing GmbH, the EHF's marketing arm, also comprises the OTT, IPTV and mobile rights for each market (Eleven Sports Network). ... League One side Blackpool finds itself "embroiled in yet another storm after an official Twitter account branded supporters 'a*** hole w******'." The slur "was posted online in the early hours of Sunday morning and came from the club's commercial account." The Twitter page was deleted on Sunday and a club statement read, "The club has been made aware of comments emanating from a Twitter account overnight that has previously advertised commercial opportunities" (London DAILY MAIL, 8/16). ... BeIN Media Group "secured TV rights deals" for La Liga and Portugal's Primeira Liga. The Qatari-owned pay-TV broadcaster "will screen one live game a week" from La Liga in Australia, after signing a deal with the league's int'l distributor, Mediapro. It "will also air" a weekly highlights program. Financial terms "were not released but the agreement is likely to be for a five-year term, in line with other new La Liga deals outside Europe." In Spain, BeIN "has taken the rights" to the Primeira Liga for the '15-16 season (SOCCEREX, 8/14). ... The Onet.pl group, belonging to Ringier Axel Springer Media, "will be an official partner" of the Bundesliga from the new season '15-16. The German Football League (DFL) and Onet.pl "started the mutual cooperation by signing a three-year contract." The aim of the cooperation "is to popularize the Bundesliga on the Polish market amid increasing popularity among Polish fans." The cooperation "includes creation of a new dedicated portal on Onet.pl" (TELECOM PAPER, 8/14). ... Online streaming service Laola1.tv "will show all group stage games of the six participating German Hockey League (DEL) clubs" (SPONSORs, 8/14).
