San Lorenzo VP Marcelo Tinelli Receives Clubs' Support In Bid For AFA Presidency

Argentine first division side San Lorenzo VP Marcelo Tinelli received support "from the principal clubs in Argentine football to be an Argentine FA presidential candidate," but later the topic "was not addressed during the exec committee's regular Tuesday meeting," according to LOS ANDES. He received "an important show of support from the clubs," but his request to be accepted as a candidate in the October elections "still has not arrived." AFA President Luis Segura "took a more rigorous and less diplomatic position, affirming that he is among those who believe Tinelli does not meet the requirements" to take over as AFA president. Earlier, Tinelli had met for more than three hours with directors of more than 30 clubs, including Boca Juniors and River Plate, and "expressed to them his desire to direct the Argentine FA." He received "the response he wanted to hear in 'unanimous' fashion" (LOS ANDES, 8/12).
