Executive Transactions

The Scottish Rugby Union's member clubs confirmed the appointment of ED CROZIER as the new president at their AGM on Saturday. Crozier, representing Cartha Queen's Park club, will hold the role for the next 12 months after serving as VP for the past year to departing President IAN RANKIN. Stepping into the role as VP is ROB FLOCKHART of Edinburgh’s Boroughmuir club, who secured a majority of four votes over IAN BARR of Lasswade, who was also standing for the role (Scottish Rugby). ... ENRIQUE SANZ has been "formally sacked" as general secretary of CONCACAF in the "ongoing fall-out from the so-called FIFAgate corruption scandal." He was placed on a "leave of absence" at the end of May (KEIR RADNEDGE, 8/9).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Bolivian national football team coach MAURICIO SORIA, whose "sacking was announced in mid-July," will now be "staying on." Soria will remain in charge for the friendlies early next month against Argentina and the Dominican Republic, and "will presumably be the man to lead Bolivia into the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign, which gets underway in October" (ESPN, 8/10). ... Ligue 1 side Marseille Manager MARCELO BIELSA announced his resignation minutes after the club's opening-day Ligue 1 defeat by Caen. The 60-year-old, "who was linked to the vacant Mexico job this week, was just starting his second campaign in charge, having finished fourth last season." He handed his letter of resignation to the club's president before "announcing the decision in a news conference." The Argentine, who had not told his players, said, "I have finished my work here, I will return to my country" (BBC, 8/8).
