Public Broadcaster RTVE Takes Exclusive Free-TV Rights To La Liga, Copa Del Rey

The Spanish Football League (LFP) and public broadcaster RTVE reached an agreement to issue RTVE the exclusive free-TV rights to one live match from every LFP matchday (second choice) and the exclusive free-TV rights to one live match from every Copa del Rey matchday (second choice) -- except for the final. This makes RTVE the only public broadcaster of this content (LFP). LIBERTAD DIGITAL reported the options to watch football on TV in Spain "have changed and multiplied" with the fusion of Movistar+ and Canal+ and the arrival of beIN Sports, the new Mediapro channel replacing Gol TV. All La Liga games will be available on Movistar+, with the exception of the one game per matchday carried by RTVE. Spanish second division games will "only be available" through Canal+ Liga 2, which will carry 11 games per matchday. There is "significant variety" with the coverage of the Copa del Rey. Telecinco will carry "only the final." The rest of the games will be on Canal+ Liga, except one game from each round will be on RTVE and one other will air exclusively on Canal+ Partidazo. Coverage of the Champions League will be on Antena 3, which will have one game every Tuesday. This will include one playoff game for Valencia, six games from the group phase, four from the round of 16, two in the quarterfinals, two in the semifinals and the final. The rest of the games will be carried by beIN Sports (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 8/10).
