Olympic Stadium To Move To Private Management After Tokyo Games

The Japanese government "decided to hand over management of the main stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to the private sector after the event ends," according to NIKKEI. The government "recently scrapped a stadium construction plan amid a public furor over the massive costs." A new plan, to be released next month by a committee headed by Olympic Minister Toshiaki Endo, "is expected to include an international competition to select a private-sector operator." Construction "will still be the responsibility of the government, which aims to complete the facility" in early '20. The old plan had the Japan Sport Council "managing the stadium after the end of the games" (NIKKEI, 8/8).
