League Notes: NBL Unveils New Logo, Website With Aims Of Attracting New Fans

The National Basketball League "has looked to Australian basketball's reputation for hard, gritty play for its new branding." The league "launched its new logo and catch line for the upcoming season, revealing a classic basketball with the NBL letters, along with the line 'Hard Ball' which points to the Australian reputation for tough play." NBL GM Jeremy Leoliger: "We think the tough, gritty aspect of the way Australians go not just about their basketball but about everything they do is what differentiates us from those other markets" (THE AGE, 8/6). ... An Indian court "has issued an arrest warrant" against former Indian Premier League Chair Lalit Modi "over allegations of money laundering in a television deal." The Mumbai court "heeded a request from the economic investigative body, Enforcement Directorate, which said Modi was not co-operating in an investigation into whether money from the deal in 2008 benefited unauthorised persons." The ED "is investigating the routing of money in the TV deal," in which a facilitation fee of $90M "was allegedly paid by one company to another for obtaining telecast rights for the IPL" (AP, 8/6).
