Serie A Side AC Milan, Fondazione Fiera In Dispute Over Stadium Expenses

AC Milan and limited liability company Fondazione Fiera Milano "are suddenly at each other's throats over expenses regarding the new stadium," according to FOOTBALL ITALIA. Last month the club "successfully won the bid to rent the area where the new stadium is intended to be built." However Fondazione Fiera Milano, the company that gave it the all-clear to build the stadium in Portello, is "now angered at some of the policy decisions that are being taken by the football club." Company President Benito Benedini harshly criticized Milan "for going back on their agreements, which included covering the expenses for reclaiming and clearing the land." The prospect of a legal battle between Milan and Fondazione Fiera "appears tangible." Benedini said, "Defining this matter will be an issue for our legal departments. As for the Portello area [where the stadium is meant to be built], we'll reconsider this discussion after the summer, when we shall consult with the Executive Committee." Milan "did not take to these comments lightly," and it released an extensive statement on its official website countering Benedini's claims. A club statement said, "The club from via Aldo Rossi does not turn back on its commitments. But Milan do have some legitimate requests for clarification, and they expect to see documents that so far have not been provided" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/6).
