ROGER FEDERER visited Malawi on Sunday to "launch a children's program funded by his charity foundation, saying he was keen to help one of the poorest countries in the world." He is "scheduled to open a child care center to improve early childhood development." Working with int'l charity Action Aid, Federer's foundation has been working in six districts in Malawi since '11 and aims to reach 135,000 by '21 (AFP, 7/20). ... Former Olympic boxer ADAM TONY FORSYTH "could be extradited to Canberra within weeks to face sentence for a Fyshwick road rage assault." Forsyth is "currently locked up in Western Australia for giving false or misleading evidence to Australian Crime Commission during a 2011 hearing." An ACT Supreme Court mention of the matter on Monday "discussed issuing a warrant for Forsyth so he could be brought to Canberra for sentence on one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm" (CANBERRA TIMES, 7/20). ... A judge "has issued an arrest warrant" for former billionaire NATHAN TINKLER after he failed to turn up to a South Australian court on Monday. Tinkler -- who once owned National Rugby League side Newcastle Knights -- "was due to front the Supreme Court for a public examination of his finances and the business dealings of his company Patinack Farm Administration as part of liquidation proceedings" (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 7/20).

FIBA HALL OF FAME: Australian basketball coach JAN STIRLING "will be inducted into the FIBA hall of fame" alongside MICHAEL JORDAN in a ceremony in France on Sept. 19. Stirling led the Opals to the gold medal at the FIBA world championships in '06, two Olympic Medals in '04 and '08 "plus she coached Adelaide Lightning to four WNBL championships and 12 finals campaigns in her 12 seasons at the helm." Stirling is now an exec officer for Sports Medicine Australia in South Australia and "was on the selection committee for the Boomers' and Opals' most recent coaching appointments." Stirling "is the only coach being inducted" along with technical official ROBERT BLANCHARD (France) and contributor NOAH KLIEGER (Israel) (THE AGE, 7/20).
