Brasileiro Side Santos Promises To Settle Late Salary Payments By Next Friday

Brasileiro side Santos is "once again is late on salary payments to players and employees," as two months have passed since the club has paid salaries and image rights to players, according to Gonçalo Junior of ESTADÃO. The club is nearing three months without compensating employees, which is when athletes "can annul their contracts, with support from the Work Ministry," with clubs if they are unpaid. The club "was notified" by the Athletes' Syndicate of São Paulo and "promised to settle payments by next Friday." Earlier this year, players Eugenio Mena, Arouca, Aranha and Leandro Damião "filed a lawsuit and were able to disaffiliate from Santos for a four-month delay" on salary payments. This time, Santos said that it is "awaiting funds from the sale" of Cicinho to Bulgarian side Ludogorets in order to "at least settle June salaries" (ESTADÃO, 7/15).
