Man City's Raheem Sterling Becomes 46th Big-Money Signing Since '08

Raheem Sterling joining Man City from Liverpool is a "huge statement from the club -- and a landmark transfer," according to Jack Bezants of the London DAILY MAIL. The fee of £49M ($76.6M) is the biggest figure Man City has paid for a player since the club was purchased by Sheik Mansour in Sept. '08 and "takes the overall figure they have spent under his ownership" to a "whopping" £719.1M ($1.12B). The Sterling transfer "ticks a lot of boxes" for Man City. He is the 46th "big-money arrival" at the club since Mansour took over from Thaksin Shinawatra and "poured his billions into the club." Man City has paid an average of £15.63M a player in the seven years he has been owner (DAILY MAIL, 7/15).
