AFL Side Greater Western Sydney On Track For First Manuka Oval Sellout

Australian Football League side Greater Western Sydney CEO David Matthews said that the club "might ask the AFL to bring Geelong back to Canberra next season as the Giants track towards their first Manuka Oval sell-out," according to David Polkinghorne of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Matthews feels the Giants' form "means they are starting to become drawcards in their own right, rather than having to rely on the status of visiting teams." He will meet ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr on Monday "to decide on a wish list for next season." Attracting another big club in '16 "will be top of their list." Matthews hinted GWS "could again ask for Geelong, given how well ticket sales are going almost two weeks out from the game." He said, "If Geelong can help us get to a point of potentially our first ever sell-out then we're really enjoying working with them at the moment." It would be the first time GWS "hosted a full house in either Canberra or Sydney" -- although Matthews felt the Giants-Swans clash at the Sydney Showgrounds on Aug. 22 "could also go close" (SMH, 7/14).
