Executive Transactions

Former Chelsea Manager CLAUDIO RANIERI has been appointed as EPL side Leicester City's manager on a three-year contract. Ranieri replaces NIGEL PEARSON, who was "sacked in June despite keeping the Foxes in the Premier League last season." Ranieri has not worked in England since leaving Chelsea in '04 and was "sacked as Greece manager last year" (BBC, 7/13). ... HENRY KASPERCZAK has been appointed coach of Tunisia for a "second stint," replacing Belgian GEORGES LEEKENS. Kasperczak, who signed a three-year deal, had "been on the final three-man shortlist to coach Ivory Coast." He coached Tunisia for four years from '94, leading it to runners-up at the 1996 Nations Cup, where it "lost to hosts South Africa in the final" (BBC, 7/13). .... Elche has appointed former Valencia and Spain midfielder RUBEN BARAJA as its new coach. Although no contract details "have been disclosed on the Valencians’ official website, the nature of the announcement suggests Baraja has signed a one-year deal." Baraja conducted "his first training session on Monday morning" (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 7/13).
