World Motor Sport Council Announces 2016 F1 Calendar; Formula E Schedule To Include Paris

The World Motor Sport Council has revealed the provisional calendar for the 2016 Formula 1 season following a meeting in Mexico City this week, according to Luke Smith of NBC SPORTS. The calendar features 21 races and is "identical to the leaked calendar" that emerged toward the end of April. The season will start at the beginning of April in Australia and features "more back-to-back events." The German Grand Prix returns after missing out on a race in '15 "due to the inability of either Hockenheim or the Nürburgring to agree a deal to host the race." At 21 races, the '16 season is "already set to feature the most races in F1 history, beating the previous record of 20" set back in '12 (NBC SPORTS, 7/10).

FORMULA E: Paris will host the first European round of the '15-16 Formula E season. The Paris ePrix will take place on April 23 on a "temporary track designed by Electric Formula and built around the architectural complex of Les Invalides." Paris joins other world capitals such as Beijing, London, Buenos Aires, Berlin and Moscow on the calendar for the second season, which was published at the FIA World Council meeting in Mexico City (Formula E).
