The Rio de Janeiro State Audit Court (TCE) said that there is a "high risk" that a subway line extension for the 2016 Olympics will not be ready in time for the Games, according to Marco Grillo of O GLOBO. The TCE said that there are three "critical points: the excavation of tunnels," construction of the Jardim de Alah station and the expansion of the General Osório station in Ipanema. In a statement, the TCE "justified the classification of high risk based on the operational calendar." TCE said that no delays can happen "whatsoever" so that the subway is functioning by the time of the Games (O GLOBO, 7/7). BLOOMBERG's Valle & Panja reported the warning from Rio's audit court over the $2.5B subway extension that would link the city's touristic southern hub to the still-under construction Olympic Park "comes a month before the next inspection visit" from the Rio 2016 organizing committee. Rio 2016 has "consistently" said that it is "confident all projects will be completed despite tight deadlines." Delays are "common in major projects in Brazil." Almost every stadium used during last year's World Cup "missed deadlines and cost more than original estimates." IOC Coordination Commission Chair Nawal El Moutawakel said, "Rio is entering the most intest period of preparations, a period where Rio must reach a new level of detail in its planning" (BLOOMBERG, 7/7).
